Her original music for marimba blends elements of classical, jazz, contemporary, and resonant soundscapes. Silva’s latest album, Elemental (2019), is an immersive musical experience that uses microphones and a loop pedal to create layers of sound that make the listeners feel as though they are surrounded by a certain element, such as air, earth, water, or fire. The performance uses extended techniques on a five-octave marimba, as well as accessory percussion instruments like rain stick, mbira, china cymbal, stones, and kick drum.
